TessenderloHam, Belgium, July 17, 2026 – Melexis, a global microelectronics engineering company, today announced the launch of the MLX90412-D, a single-coil cooling fan driver IC that supports currents up to 2.2 A. It is designed for high-power thermal management applications such as data centers, AI workstation GPUs, UPS systems, industrial drives, and home appliances.
The MLX90412-D retains the “plug-and-play” code-free integration advantage, allowing configuration of speed profiles, FG signals, and motor control parameters without firmware development. This significantly reduces software engineering effort and external component count. For applications that meet the requirements, the chip offers a more cost-effective single-coil fan control path compared to three-phase solutions.
With a current limit of 2.2 A, the IC supports fan applications of approximately 18 W at 12 V and 36 W at 24 V, making it especially suitable for designs where a single large blower replaces multiple smaller fans. The chip integrates comprehensive diagnostic features, including programmable locked-rotor protection, over-temperature shutdown, over-voltage protection, and over-current protection, ensuring operational safety. In addition, improved motor control algorithms deliver smoother start/stop behavior, lower acoustic noise, and longer lifetime, while optimized PI regulation maintains stable operation even at very low speeds.
Oscar Ou, Marketing Manager at Melexis, stated that the product balances code-free configurability and reliability, addressing designers’ needs for both efficiency and thermal performance, helping to reduce design effort while meeting demanding industrial environment requirements.
