Recently, Molex announced the launch of MiniMix, an ultra-compact hybrid connector for humanoid robots and autonomous mobile robots (AMRs). The product integrates 15.0 A power delivery and 1 Gbps 1000BASE-T1 high-speed Ethernet communication into a single ultra-compact interface, with a minimum wiring profile of only 5.65 mm. It can reduce wiring area by up to 50% compared with conventional connection solutions and is designed specifically for space-constrained robot joints and actuators.
As humanoid robots and AMRs move toward compactness and high integration, the internal space of multi-axis joints such as wrists, elbows, and knees is extremely limited. Traditional separate power and communication connection solutions can no longer meet miniaturization requirements. By transmitting power and signals in an integrated manner, MiniMix significantly simplifies harness architecture, reduces cable weight and complexity, and improves system reliability. Its 15.0 A current-carrying capacity covers the drive requirements of most joint motors, while 1000BASE-T1 Ethernet supports high-speed real-time communication to meet the transmission requirements of sensor data and control commands.
The connector supports the use of pre-terminated cable assemblies, eliminating manual wiring or terminal soldering, which helps reduce assembly labor and lower the risk of failure. It is available in straight and right-angle mating orientations, enabling effective use of internal space and reducing cable stress. Its rugged vibration-resistant construction ensures reliability under continuous robot motion, making it suitable for humanoid robot joints, AMR drive wheels, collaborative robots, and other scenarios.
The launch of MiniMix provides a new interconnect option for the miniaturization and lightweighting of robots and is expected to drive broader adoption of humanoid robots and AMRs.
